Kaamulan Festival 2019 is a unique event in the Philippines social calendar as it brings together different communities in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

Malaybalay is the capital city of Bukidnon. Its centralized location makes it pretty accessible, and contributes to the large turnout. To fully understand the essence of this festival, it becomes important to know the meaning of the festival’s name.

‘Kaamulan’ is a derivative of ‘amul’, the local word for gathering since the event connects different tribes to each other in the city. To enjoy this event, visitors make their way to Malaybalay in the second half of February. The yearly Kaamulan is held daily till the beginning of March where it culminates in a beautiful ceremony.

It is interesting to note that over the years, other events birthed by the festival have evolved into magnificent tourist attractions and must-attend events for the locals. Te Laga Ta Bukidnon for instance, is a beauty pageant that has grown tremendously, and which continues to highlight the culture of the seven tribes scattered across Bukidnon.
